Preparing for your Workday Studio Training

Before starting your course, you're required to download the necessary software, as it is used throughout your training.

When Workday releases a new version of Workday Studio, you may no longer be able to connect to any tenant using an older version. As such, there is a high risk that predefined images created by IT departments to build training workstations will fail in class. Please work with your IT as necessary to ensure your Workday Studio installation is fully up-to-date.

Note: If you’re unable to complete these steps before the start of class, you need to enroll in a different offering.

Downloading Workday Studio

Workday Studio is a third-party application deployed locally on your machine. It connects to the tenant over the internet. Sometimes, you might have a firewall or https proxy server on your internal network. If so, you won't be able to connect without additional configurations. These additional configurations might need to be performed by your IT department and would need to be completed before the start of class.

Latest Release

As of 2025R1, you need both Java 17 and Java 8. For installation versions prior to 2025R1, the Update Workday Studio option will not work due to the dependency on a new version of Java, and a full install/re-install will be required.

Note: If you installed Workday Studio 2025R1 with a release of 2025.15.113 or newer, you may use the Workday > Update Workday Studio option to upgrade your installation. Otherwise, you must uninstall and do a fresh install of Workday Studio.

Workday Report Designer (BIRT)

Learners enrolled in the Workday Report Designer (BIRT) course are required to also download Workday Report Designer.

Troubleshooting

For known issues, troubleshooting, and solutions for Workday Studio, visit the Knowledge Base page.

Common installation issues include:

  • VPN: Sometimes VPN can prevent connections to our training tenants. Try disabling your VPN, or connecting to another network (as allowed by your organization’s IT policies).
  • Firewall (local and network) or Anti-Virus: You might need to ask your IT department to allowlist workdayeducation.com, as well as modify your network access for Workday Studio and Java to communicate with the internet from your machine.
